Since we have so many people who like to sample, I have a question for you.
If you had to make a new beat with a rock sample in it, what's your top 3 songs that you would sample from, why you would choose them, and what elements would you sample from them?
Since I asked the question, I'll go first.
1.) AC/DC - Back In Black. I'd sample the guitar loop and some of the vocals possibly. It's an up in your face track and you could really say some shit to move people on it.
2.) The Cure - Purple Haze (It's on a Jimi Hendrix tribute CD, a rare find. You want the mp3 to hear what I'm thinking on this one, get at me). I would actually take this one and the original Purple Haze by Hendrix and mix them together. I would use the beat that the Cure made, take it and loop it and then throw in some of the original guitars from Jimi and then mix and match vocals from both (if I had the acapella for the Cure's version, which I don't). I would pick this one because when I listen to it, it provokes thought for me. I feel like I could really spit somethin' deep and get some thoughts off my chest.
3.) Aerosmith - Janie's Got A Gun. I would use the beat and probably some of the hook. Remember when Eminem did "Sing for the Moment", took Aerosmith's track and flipped it into something cool? Same thing would happen with "Janie's Got A Gun" only the Janie bit would have to go. It'd be an entertaining track to do to say the least, and would probably be some fun.
Hope this broadens some of your minds. Keep bangin'
