I am wondering if there is any point to recording my tracks into my p.c. at a rate higher than 44100 Hz, even though they will eventually have to be at that rate on a c.d. Will a higher sampling rate on the front end of the process have any appreciable difference on the finished product.

Thanks for any help

Matt

This is just my opinion based on my own experiences. I was recording at 24 bits/ 48 khz but now record at 24/44.1. In my humble opinion, recording at the highest bit depth (24 bits) at 44.1 and not re-sampling, just dithering down to 16 bits is less detrimental to the sound than re-sampling and dithering. YMMV.

i agree with MR. Rat....some guys can hear the difference between 44.1 and 48, but the jury is still out for me....

unless you have a flawless way of converting from 48 to 44.1, you can do more damage than help by going the 48khz route....

if 96khz was what you had in mind, that doubles the resources needed so thats another issue......

I feel I can hear the difference between 44.1 and 48khz but I feel the difference goes out the window when re-sampling.
