I have been working with a dr 770 for a year now and am realizing that it isnt really what I am looking for. I have been told that a sampler can help me create better loops and stuff, and also add in soundbites like small vocal parts of simple 3 second sounds from anything that I plug into the back of the sampler....is this how these things work, and if so, is it easy to use.
I use an analog 8 track porta, and am hoping that I can just kinda get some beats and samples down on some sorta sampler and then add them to my tracks on the 488.
Lastly, which kinds of samplers do you suggest in the 250-400 dollar range....(not list prices, street or used<ebay>)., I am looking at ebay and there are a ton of roland sp-808's out there...are they any good...if not what sould I get.

There are a bunch of older Akai and Emu samplers that were pretty much the shit during their time. Get one with the most HD space and RAM that you can afford. Some also have VGA outputs so you can hook up a monitor for sample editing.
