This question is mainly directed at sample based Hip-Hop producers, but non-sample based, and even different genres can apply as well to some degree.
I was looking through my entire catalog recently, and I'd say well over 50% of my beats are beats that I just couldn't get anything out of it that I liked. No matter how much I tweaked it and played around with it. I end up saving them anyway, because the sample(s) moved me in some way, but I just wasn't able to capture that inspiration in the music. I'll come back to them every once and a while, but very rarely will I ever finish it(But when I do I always end up loving it). I suppose that I haven't trained myself to really find the sounds I want, and be able to know what will work and what won't work yet.
Anyway, how many unfinished beats do you have? And do you ever just abandon a beat completely?
