I've just started with cubase vst 4.0.
In the VSTinstuments window it seems that 4 different VSTi's can be chosen.

Q1: Is there a way to chose more then 4?

Q2: Is it possible to use the same VSTi on multiple channels (if I want to use different sounds from the same VSTi)?

Thanks in advance!

Yep, it should be he same in the version of cubase your using - I use SX. select another instance of the vsti from the vst insruments menu, turn it on. create another midi track, arm it, select the correct input(midi controller) and for output, select the second instance of the vsti you just selected - it shouls have a (2) next to it, to let you know it's not the first one you have been using. Hope this helps, but again, your version of cubase might be different. As far as choosing more than 4 vsti's, if it only shows you 4 slots, than I would guess that's your limit. Upgrade to SX, you get to use alot more than 4...
