I can't believe the turn that closed treat took. I'll say this and this only to hangdog and all other non believers.

I listened to the mix several times and whethere it was good or bad it was the song and the VIBE of the song tat inspired me to ask if I could have a crack at remixing it.

Some of you guys out there forget this is HOME recording , com if you wanna play with the big boys go hang out in the womb or the velvet rope.

I think the individual performances were well above average for THIS site and nobody here should EVER lose track about what this site is HOME RECORDING.

As a paid M.E. I'm happy to take a bit of down time and work on this song when I get an open windo slot to do so. I've downloaded the tracks and thrown them up on the faders and I can HEAR (and primeraly thats what I'm paid to do) that there is something here worth mixing. If you can't close your eyes and see further into a mix about how YOU would go about making it all knit together then you're in the wrong business, the wrong chat forum, and the wrong expectation path.

I agree that the other thread got out of hand, but that above statement is complete bullshit. People gave their opinion, the mix sucked beyond just being bad. Period. Calling people "non-believers", etc...and giving them shit for giving their opinion is totalt crap. If you started this thread to continue what was happening in the other thread, then you accompished that.

If you started this thread to put up a new mix, then just do it and don't "call people out" for giving their opinion. Hangdawg's tone isn't the only thing to blame for the other thread going south. I think there was little too much spilled milk in the reaction, too.
 
Goodness, I duck away for a couple of days, and BANG... Wow... I don't like it when people I like are beating on each other.

I spent a couple of hours restoring some body to the drums, and I have an agreeable submix going there now; I'm working on the guitars. Yes, this is a very challenging project. Now that I have the bare tracks, I can say that most of the issues people are hearing are because of very wide track-to-track EQ variance, and some printed effects that aren't mapping well to the levels on other tracks...

True, if you have a dry cut, I'd love it. Reverb is nice, and there will be plenty on your voice, but the depth and countoiur of it has to work with the rest of the tracks, and that decision can't be made till all the tracks are present, ya know? :)

For the record, yeah, the mix needed a lot of work. Randy acknowleded that openly. All the flaming that went on was a bit over the top. More than a bit. Let's try to be the people we should be, OK? Alex and I offered to do mixes because we both hear things that could make the song realize more of its potential. Alex's comments in post 1 here are well-founded; most people here are hobbyists, and many are very fearful of posting anything at all; I know I was terrified when I first started posting because I was afraid to get ripped. It's fine to criticize, even strenuously; but it can always be done constructuvely, with an eye towrd the ultimate goal; which is the best quality performance, acquisition, mix, and master that the artist(s) are capable of.

I'm fascinated to hear what Alex does with it, because he and I come from very different genres and mix tastes. (Plus, he's a drunken lout... *ducking and running* :) :) :) )

Anyway, as someone who has never hit a home run, but some doubles and triples along the way, along with many foul balls, all I can say is "Relax, guys, music is supposed to be about joy, isn't it?"

I don't know what the womb or velvet rope are, but they don't sound like places I want to be. :) Regardless, I think we can use this as an example of how we can make this forum better, all of us.

I suggest we all just take a deep breath, relax, and let's hear what Alex and I do with the song. That's what the joint is about, right? It's a mix clinic. Not that I'm necessarily qualified to be a "clinician", mind you, but I've worked with Randy's material enough to have an idea what works on it... We'll see. :) I might butcher it worse, who knows?

What is this, the guys who submitted sub par tracks and got ommited from the mix or what? Why do't you shuffle off to homemixing.com Seriously I can't believe what a turn this place has taken for the worse. If you've learned all you can from this site and have nothing constructive to put back in then move on. End of.

I don't know if this was directed at me or whatever, but I listen to and comment on as many threads as I can. I try to keep it positive unless the participants turn into douchebags.

The mix was shit. Plain and simple. It sounded terrible. People said so, because it was true. AND THAT IS THE MOST HELPFUL THING ANYONE CAN DO. It has nothing to do with monitoring systems or anything else. It was shit. Grow up, idiot. Fuck, you're a pathetic joke.
 
I'm removing myself from this thread simply because this doesn't belong in the CLINIC.

I apologise to all of you for continuing what should have ended in the other thread, but some asshole started this thread in the name of peace, only to try to get a little dig in on people who were being honest about something. And then tried telling me to shut up for giving my opinion on his worthless opinion. :D

I can't take hypocrites, so I had to point out what an asshole he is.
