I'm in the market for a front end for my computer recording. I have a great home made dual Calrec eq and was looking for something to put in front of it. I notice one or 2 of you guys mention the Safesound and its made in the uk. How does it work out for you? Or should i save my pennies and buy an Avalon or something similar. I'm not looking for heavy compression and am more into the ballad Crystal Gayle, bluegrass, moderrn country type of thing.
Thanks Again

Hey Vikki. The safe sound is a great unit at a great price. The expander and limiter are such nice add ons to the pre amp and compressor, makes it a very well spent $500. The unit is very clean and can be pushed to color. As a DI for bass and such it is outstanding and once you set the limiter you don't have to worry about digital clipping again. Nice things said about the Tampa too, though I don't have one

P1 is good if you want one channel w/ compressor for $500.

Now, if you could spring a grand, I'd say the .Toft Audio ATC-2 is a strong contendor.

My two cents

I think you'd really like the P-1.

Very pristine and transparent compression and limiting. Nice mic pre, too.

Is the Tampa a single channel or 2 channel unit? Looks as if it has 2 vu meters.
