I'm looking at the Sabian XS20 Cymbal prepack set or the Zildjian A series
Cymbal prepack. :)

Zildjian
14" hihat
16" crash
20" ride
10" splash

Sabian
20" ride
14" hihat
16" crash

Just getting started in drums.

Zildjian all the way. I play sabian but i have a few A cutoms and i love them. Are these the same price??? 'A's cost quite a bit more over here - and an extra 10" splash?? you sure you've got your facts right?

The Facts

Zildjian $499
Sabian $327

Guitar Centers - LA California area

Question is quality and value

Every cymbal sounds different. I would physically hear the individual cymbals you plan to buy - caveat emptor.

this is so true. i'm not a big fan of the "pack" idea either. i use zildjian A's but that doesn't mean you shouldn't test them both.

It all depends...

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're a beginner to intermediate player and you're just looking for the best bang for the buck, I would consider the XS20s. I bought a set of XS20s for my nephew, he's been playing for about 2 years, and the XS20s were perfect for him. I tried all of the cymbal packs and most of them are "stamped" out of a big sheet, rather than cast like the XS20s. HUGE difference in tonal quality.

For my own set, I really love the sound of my Custom A's 14" and 16" crashes. It took me a while to find just the right ones that compliment eachother. No two cymbals will sound exactly alike.

Good luck with your decision. Cheers, Rez

I wouldn't consider myself a basher, but I have cracked a couple of Zildjians in my day. I play almost all Sabians now (LOVE the "El Sabor" hats!) and they are still in great shape. They even sound good!

Unless Zildjian has changed their policy while I wasn't looking, their cymbals come with a 1-year warantee. Unless I'm mistaken, Sabian's warantee is lifetime.

I prefer Sabian, but its up to you. You should test both out before you make your choice.

i would mix and match all cymbals, for example buy a zildjian A crash and buy a Sabian AAX Explosion or something like that...and get the Zildjian Rock ride... its aweosme my friend has it

and maybe if its for studio use get some of the studio cymbals that sabian and zildjian put out those sound pretty cool in the store but i havent put them on recording yet (first i need to buy them)
