Fast Bounce...

What is it?

(Not talking about the freeze track option)...I'm talking about the exporting & bouncing to track option.

I unchecked it for a 24/96 bounce to .wav...& the engine churned & churned & churned & took twice as long to spit out the file...but the end result sounded tits.

Couldn't find anything in the manual or help files.

What's the deal?

Thanks,

Haven't tested on this end, but haven't noticed any differences when I have been forced into using it with some fx that wouldn't play ball any other way, eg. early versions of BFD.

As to does it sound different - why don't you bounce one track the normal way, the other with Fast bounce disabled. Open a new Sonar file, import both versions into different tracks. Swap the phase on one track, play back and tell us what you hear.

That will determine exactly what the differences are - if any.

Ciao,

Q.

I always uncheck fast bounce.
I had a problem once with the normal bounce, switched and never looked back.
I'm wondering if it's my UAD 1 card that does'nt play well with fast bounce.

Q & acid,

Thanks. I'll try that Q; & report back...great idea.

BTW...acid, I was having issues with UAD-1 (clicks/pops on BTD); & fixed everything by setting MIN_GNT (in PCI Bus Settings) to 128 (up from the default 64.) No one seems to know about this (including Universal Audio), but it worked for me & some others. Try it...has to be better overall.

Fast bounce is like getting your tax returns from H&R Block ;)

Qwerty,

They null perfectly (fast bounce & real time bounce.) Numbers don't lie...there you have it (although...they both do sound better than the XL 2.2 BTD's.)

Good job...Thanks,

Excellent! Thank the lord, (Ron Kuper), for that one! I sure as hell didn't want there to be a difference... Glad to hear it was the same!

In relation to 2.2, I thought I could definately hear a difference in its audio engine compared to the 3.0 release. In fact, I think there was a thread floating around from back then which tracked it down... Dachay makes sure that I say "sounds different" as opposed to "sounds better", but the difference was certainly noticeable.

I have not heard the same level of difference between v3 and v4 as I don't think they changed the default audio engine, just the panning law. Seeing how I haven't played with it, I can't tell you if there is anything super-sexy hiding in there either...

Keep on rockin' on!

Ciao,

Well...

...we'll just have to inform Brother Dach that it's definitely better. With the same v2.2 projects at the same levels & settings, the v4 BTD's have more separation & clarity. They sound more...well; musical. Seems to be more space around the instruments & vocals.

AND...(here's the advantage that really sells me)...those pain-in-the-butt cumulative layer artifacts...the one's where a bass note happens to fall precisely over a kick drum & a guitar chord strike at the same moment, for example. Or the ones that seem to happen to me all the time...where certain harmonic characteristics in a vocal line or guitar lead cause a mix to overload in a weird way, causing a discordant, abrasive like sound where they fall at the same time as another "up front" instrument...

...those points (what I've heard some call "sympathetic frequencies") are much cleaner in the SONAR4 bounces.

BTW - Having said that...it's not good for much else (SONAR4, that is)...being a CPU intensive hog dog with an ugly, uncomfortable interface.
