I'm bouncing all my SONAR 2.2 CD projects to .wav w/ SONAR4...'cause I like the functionality (& the sound) of having an input gain on the Vmains (so as to not hit a mastering limiter on the stereo bus so hard.)
Now I think I have this right, but I just wanted to be extra sure...
...so...all tracks in a project are assigned (in S4) to (A), except for a set of Bass Comps, which are assigned to (B); & a set of Drum comps, which are assigned to (C.) (B) & (C) have EQ & dynamics plug-ins applied; & are both routed back to (A.) (A) has the mastering limiter applied, to whack transients; & is routed to the main hdwe. out (analog 1-2.)
This is correct, if I want the bass (B) & drum (C) comps to route through the limiter (A), right? (thereby having all the tracks take advantage of limiting.)
Now...when I export (in S/4)...the Source Buses/Tracks in the dialog defaults to my main hdwe. outs (ASIO _ _ _ _ analog 1-2.) Does this mean the signal is being summed off the hdwe. out as opposed to the Vmain (A)? And if that's true, could (B) & (C) also be routed to analog 1-2 & still take advantage of the limiter?
Back in SONAR 2.2, the Vmains can only be assigned to the hdwe. outs (& not other Vmains...as in S4.) So with my above routing scenario, in S2.2, the bass on (B) & the drums on (C) could be routed to analog 1-2, but then they would not take advantage of the limiter on (A), correct?
[reason I ask is...when I attempt to export out of S2.2, all 3 source busses come up in the dialog...& I can of course uncheck the separate submix box & have them all summed together...but the busses are listed as the Vmain in combination with the hdwe. out [A (ASIO _ _ _ _ analog 1-2, B (ASIO _ _ _ analog 1-2, etc.] But even if SONAR pulled the signal off the hdwe. outs, the limiter is applied to the Vmain (A); & (B) & (C) would miss it, I believe.
Thanks,
