What is S/pdif used for? I just bought an audiophile 24/96 and I don't use those connections. I am having problems recording and I wonder if that could have something to do with it.

I connect to the card through a mackie mixer and I use the regular audio i/o cables. When I record in Acid pro 4 I keep doubling over on my tracks. I assume it is because the card thinks that the mixer is one instrument, but I can't think of another way to hook it up. Everything is connected to my mixer including the monitors. I have tried to isolate using the m audio control panel, but I just end up muting everything. Please help me if you use this card. Thanks

s/pdif i think(but not sure) its Sony Panasonic Digital Interface....but i could be wrong...i do know that its your digital input! ok as for the doubling over....do you mean the seperate tracks all on one track? or is it recording the same track twice on two tracks? it may be looping due to everything being connected to the mixer....connect your monitors to the analog outputs of the soundcard or to the Spdif out if you have that option on your monitors.

S/PDIF stands for Sony/Phillips Digital InterFace

It is a digital format, so if you're connecting to your soundcard via the analog inputs, it cannot be the source of your problem.

Still troubled

I will try to be more detailed this time. My specific problem is that I cannot record a new track without all the previous tracks recording behind it.

The Equiptment I am using is
Audiophile 24/96
Mackie mixer (dfx-6)
fostex pmo.5 monitors
and computer

Sound goes in through mixer, into soundcard, into acid pro 4, back out the soundcard, back to mixer, to fostex pmo.5 monitors. Please help. The connection between my mixer and computer is with standard audio cables (red and white). Two in and two out.

I am realy at a loss. Please help. Thanks

send your soundcard output directly to the monitors...not back through the mixer.....thats your problem right there

when you run the sound back through the mixer...you'll hear it out of your monitors but it also rerecords in acid pro....i made the same mistake trying to figure out how i can monitor vocals and still hear the song......in the end i bought a nice contraption called a headphone amplifier.....Behringer has one for 99 bucks...samson also has one for 99 bucks....i will say this...the samson C-control is 99 bucks and it has push button controls for your headphone monitoring and your monitors. http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-SAM-CONTROL.html

Still troubled

I think I fixed the problem of hooking the monitors up by going direct to the monitors from the sound card. Now I go mixer to audio in and audio out goes direct to speakers. But I am still having trouble with audiophile 24/96 settings in acid pro 4. The problem is that I can't get sound from the program and sound from the audio input to happen at the same time. I have the choice between one or the other. What I have been able to figure out is that if I go to preferences in Acid and then to audio-advanced-configure I can use the control panel patch/bay router to switch between hearing the input on the card and hearing the internal sound from the tracks in the program. It is driving me crazy because I am sure it is just a simply click of the mouse at this point, but I can't figure it out. Please Help! Thanks

You can run the soundcard outputs back into the mixer but you need to make sure you don't loop it back in. Use the Direct Outs (if you have them) Inserts or the 3/4 buss to send tracks to the soundcard.
