S/PDIF w/ Firestudio?

I am running a Presonus Firestudio project to a TC Electronics M300 and back using S/PDIF.

The only way anything seems to go to the M300 is by setting the track out to master.

I thought I would be setting 9M (L) to the M300 from the track I want the effects on. Then, setting the input of the effected track to 10M (R). With this connection, nothing goes to the M300.

Is there a way to set this up so my vocal track can run out to the M300 in, then back to the Firestudio without having all the tracks go?

I am only guessing here because I do not have this hardware, but it seems logical that you can do this easily. I am betting it is simply an incorrect setting for signal routing. Take it one step at a time.

Adobe Audition can control which channel in the firewire gets the signal but nothing beyond that. Once the signal gets to the Firestudio, the FireControl software controls where it gets sent to from there. Experiment with different settings until you discover how to route it to the s/pdif output. You may have to put it in playback mode or something. I don't know.

For the return signal, the same scenario works in reverse. Try setting the input to s/pdif (instead of mic/line) so that it routes the s/pdif return signal back to the firewire cable for the DAW.

If the only interface you have connected to the DAW is the Firestudio then the inputs and outputs that you see in Adobe Audition should all be numbered as 1M through 8M. You should be able to assign the track output directly to a firewire output channel such as 1M. This causes the Audition software to send signal straight out to the firewire device along channel 1, (instead of to the master track.) As long as you can get the Firestudio box to pass it through to the s/pdif plug, then you are golden. Signal returning to Audition can also be selected as usual for recording on another empty track.

Good Luck.
