s/pdif recording

Hey guys,

I have a Boss Gt-6 (guitar effects) and want to hook it up to my PC, it has a digital out and my sound card has a (s/pdif) digital in, so I connected them with a s/pdif coaxial cable but I can't record, I either get no sound when recording or just noise (if I choose stereo) so I figure that I'm doing something wrong. Do I need something extra to go between the fx processor and the soundcard? Or a program to convert the signal or something?

Never heard of the brand 'my soundcard' (we're not psychic about your particular equipment...) but many soundcards have their ports turned off until you go and turn them on. Look in your soundcard's control panel and see if you have to check a box to enable the s/pdif....

I'm fairly sure that s/pdif is enabled. I should have explained, I can hear what I'm recording just barely through the noise. I shall check again when I'm at home. However, I did assume that given that the sound card does have s/pdif in it wouldn't matter to you guys what the make/model was... but thanks for the sarcasm, it ticked me off a little. On the plus side, you didn't mention anything about a mixer or something to go between the FX processor and the sound card so you indirectly answered my question. I'll keep messing around with the settings and see if I need to enable anything.
