S/P DIF recordings slower than originals

I have just realized that all the recordings that I put through the S/P DIF from my computer on to the VF08 are just a little off, both in tone and tempo.

I have looked throught the whole manual for anything and have not found a clue. Yes I record with the same sampling rate 44.1 @ 16 bits.

What I have tried is this. when sending a signal eather way I have disconected the S/P DIF not in use. I have tried four other mixing programs thinking it may be there.

Out put is great to the computer but once sent back to the VF08 it just slows down. I tried loading data as a PGM but the same problem.

I have tried other sound cards from a SB platinum right up to Creamware's Luna 2 and even the pulsar. But no luck.

Anybody with an Idea how to find out whats wrong? I have not contacted Fostex support yet just wanted to hear from some real experts first.

I do not have a VF08; However in the VM200/VR800 combo there are sync settings that need to be checked before one can do the sort if thing you're doing. In most cases because these are optical connectors on the VM200/VR800 the sync can be both Asynchronous or Synchronous. However, asynchronous can vari-pitch so try synchronous only (limits pitch shift)... I'm not sure but I think that you only have coaxial (RCA S/PDIF)connectors on the VF08, so this could also be a factor.
Somewhere in the manual they must discribe Async and sync modes over S/PDIF - try it and see. I hope this helps. I would recommend that you contact Fostex support anyway. Good Luck!

I should have wrote this first. After adding some reverb and stuff in Samplitude 5.5. I recorded the mix back to the VF08. All was grand, I played it back to see what and how it came out. I then turned off the unit and went over to our conductor to hear what she would like to have.

Then to my shock and her's we were a bit slow and off key. So I still had the original recordings so I AB,ed and yes there was a huge differents. Back home to see what happened, I recorded back to Samplitude. Then dumped it back with out any fiddling. Low and behold the same.

So I started to investegate the SPDIF signal. I found out that my card has a fixed 48kHz sampling rate in and out. All the other cards I tried I just through them in to find a solution.

For the VF08 there is no mention in the manual about sync or async. the closest it come to talking about a sync signal is the "slave mode"

Which is just a yes no choice and then "slave type".
This gives you three choices free, vari and SPDIF.

The SPDIF mode after chase locking, it will run free by the SPDIF clock only when there is a SPDIF digital signals from the master. However, if the digital in has been set, that clock will have priority. " Manual p 106 "

The next is "Setting digital input " this again is yes or no. Very simple settings but that's it.

I have also tried saving as a PGM throught the SPDIF everything went fine. Copied tracks 1 through 8 and the pilot signal could be heard. When it came time to load it back no go
