Rust, Rust, read all about it!!!!!!!!

Looking at the artile below (at the time of writing) I noticed the question about rusty pick-ups. My frets on one guitar have developed a kind of rust(or something else(and I haven't neglected it)), I wonder if there is any suggestions as to what I should do as a remedial cure.

The same remedy I recomended for rusty pickups I recomend for frets-except using Brasso. #0000 very fine steel wool should remove any crusty stuff from your frets and finger board. Finger oils will build up on finger boards and on frets any should be cleaned often. Also I can't stress this enough DON'T USE so called guitar polish, cleaners, fast fret, finger ease, WD40, or any type solvent on guitar necks. This crap will build up on fingerboards and will seep into the grain on ebony and rosewood finger boards and cause the grain to seperate and bleach the wood's color. These chemicals can also seep under glossy finishes of maple necks at the frets and discolor the wood. To clean the finger board and frets LIGHTLY buff with the steel wool and after the frets appear shiney and the gunk is gone from the wood wipe the "dust" from the steel wool away with a clean dry lint free cloth and use a very small amount of natural linseed oil to bring the sheen back to the wooden surfaces of the finger board.
