I was over newly aquired associates studio and he runs his keyboard(s) into a mic pre before sending it to his sound card. He said you can use either a DI box or a pre amp and it will clean up the sound.

I just run my keyboard str8 into my soundcard but was wondering if it is worth it to use a pre amp? Does or can it make a noticable difference?

Your Thoughts???

well, guess it depends on what sort of pre amp you´ve got. For instance on mine you can choose wether its mic or line, ( u can use guitars and so on.) Ive never tried plugging in a keyboard so i dont really know the outcome. But I think it can make difference...I suggest you try and see what works out.

WOOF--K9:

You can run your keyboard into anything you want. For example, I often run my synth into my Grace 101 mic pre; OR, I can run it into my other mic pre, ART. Or, I can run it into my compressor.

The fun of recording is to experiment and see what comes OUT of what you put IN.

Everyone's ears like to hear certain types of sounds, depending on what your main ax is.

So, go ahead and run your keys into several things, several ways and then get into the tweaking with FX and maybe some EQ.
