i thought i'd name drop just this once- as a way to introduce myself to the folks here since i only recently found out about this place.
ready?
okay, so some of my favorite recordings in terms of overall feel but production too would have to be..
Johnny Hartman & John Coltrane- actually, my cd is a great compilation with those 6 tracks and several others to flesh it out that are just as great. so is bob thiele the one who got that sound, or is it this rudy van gelder engineer cat?
Intercontinental by Joe Pass- an out of print import, so i don't know how familiar it would be to ppl who aren't focsed on jazz guitar. i ripped and burned that record from vinyl and it warmed up in t-racks really nicely too.
Wave by A.C. Jobim- shouldn't it be cheating to have like 20 worldclass musicians on a single song? i love the sparse arrangements as well- the way the melody gets passed around. oh shit- i just looked at the album and noticed that van gelder was the studio/engineer for that that one as well! _damn..
anything by Busta Rhymes- this man is a goofy bigot and a homophobe for sure, but he's a talented creative artist as well. and as a hiphop kid, i appreciate how there's never 30 seconds that goes by during which he doesn't go out of his way productionwise to give you a creative sparkly vocal treatment or do something new and crazy with his vocal.
Vespertine by Bjork - Marius de Vries is a motherfucker and i don't care how little i know about any of this shit- what a stud.
have any of y'all heard that Que Domingo track by nuSpirit Helsinki? check it out if you dig brokenbeat- in fact check it out regardless
okay, thanks for listening- that's it for now
