I bought a pair of the Radio Shack drum mics Harvey mentioned are on sale this month.While I haven't had a chance yet to try them out on their intended target,I have been recording other stuff to see what other uses might sound like.
Here is a clip of one of the mics on my cedartop acoustic.Signal chain was rs mic into AudioBuddy into C-Port into pc with win98SE running n-track v 3.0 at 24 bit,44.1K.The wma file is 98kbps.
I recorded 4 tracks,all dry except for a little compression and verb on the lead line.For a cheap mic,it gets a good guitar sound without a lot of fuss.
