royer do it yourself tube mic

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here had tried the do it yourself tube mic that appeared in tape op mag and is on the web at

Is it worth a try. What's the mic best suited for after the conversion.

hey Andy,
I built it from the kit Royer offers at mojave audio. It is pretty good and basically takes a crappy chinese mic and turns it into something useable. isn't hard to do from the kit..probably took an hour including the building of the power supply..It isn't a U47 but it is a TON better...
