So I'm considering building some of the above listed :) I think I've got some good plans and everything, but the one thing I am unsure of is which roxul to purchase. Do the r-ratings matter when it comes to bass traps? Should I go for 30 or 40 or for lower like 15?

Naw dood, get Roxul 80 from SPI. Much better performance from my research. Available in 2" and 4" 2'x4' panels.

Hmmm how much are they? The only thing I could find on the site was absorption panels...is that the same thing?

Just call them. There are 3 locations in VA. You won't find any pricing or any info online from them. I just called the distributor here. Roxul 80 is sold retail for $1.90 per square foot at 4" thick. That is about $15 per panel.

Cool so they just ship it to you? I will have to give them a call. Was really looking forward to using my employee discount at Lowe's though.... :(

:D

Naw man. Shipping would kill you. Pick it up yourself. Here in Denver, they stock the shiz.

Haha I would but the spots they list for Virginia aren't actually in VA...just nearby. The closest one is like 3 hours one-way lol.

Maybe give them a call and see if they have a delivery going somewhere closer. You can always barter some goodness by acting sexy. lol

So I think I'm gonna go with the original plan of using roxul safe'n'sound! I've been reading a lot on gearslutz and everyone really likes it and has had good results. Anyone else reading this gone this route before?

Pthth! I know only what I used. I have heard someone here used the SnS stuff, but I don't remember who. DO I need to search that for ya? lol!

Haha well whoever uses it is obviously in hiding!! Thanks for your help dude :) I guess I might have to make a GearSlutz account and head over there to continue my quest!

You will need rations for your quest. May I send you some medications or possibly a virgin with skills in the means of massage?

I made about 16 bass traps out of Roxul safe n' Sound. They work fine.

Ahh finally the answer I seek :D. Cool. Thanks for chiming in! How thick did you make your traps?

I made super chunks for the 2 corners behind my speakers, and I think the rest are all 5" thick. I got a couple of clouds over my listening area nd drums, and a bunch spread out around the room, first reflection points, a couple of floor/wall and ceiling/wall, etc...

There are a few pictures in the "Let me see your studio" thread, but I have no idea what page they're on.

Oh yeah I remember you posting the pics in that thread! I never realized they were roxul back then. I'll go dig up the posts and check it out. Thanks again!

So just as one final follow-up question....the r-value of insulation used in the bass traps doesn't really make a difference, right? From what I have researched no one has really mentioned it on other forums, so I'm guessing it's not anything to be concerned over. I just ask because the rock wool I'm looking at is r-15.
