Man what a poor investment the 5.0 Platinum version of Easy CD creator has been. After I upgraded to WinXP, the darn software stopped working. I go to the Roxio site to try and download the latest upgrade and it won't install. I send them an email and 3 weeks later they respond asking me for some number off the CD before they will respond.

Then they sent me an email to upgrade to 6.0!!!!!

Hey Roxio, you guys suck eggs.......and no you won't get anymore of my money.

Sorry, needed to vent.

EXACTLY why i switched to Nero.
my idea of killing everyone and only leaving the home recorders alive isn't looking so bad now is it?

Your not the only one. My Roxio software decided on day to stop burning at 40X and just burn at 4X. Brought it to the guy who built my computer. 3 days later got my computer back. Worked find for a few months. Just last week it did the same thing. I go to the Roxio web site and download the latest upgrade. The software no longer will work. There is another patch that says if software fails to work after upgrade download this patch. Still don't work so back to the computer store. This time the guy calls me back in 2 hours and tells me it's fine. I get the computer home. Yeah the software works again but will only burn at 4X. AAAAAHHHHHHHRRRRRRRR.
Gee I feel better now. I have Nero too. It works but doesn't do anything near what the Roxio software can do (when it works)
Thanks for letting me rant.

huhuhuuu

Easy Cd Creator sucks. I use Nero too. And in fact, I mainly use Wavelab 4 to burn audio cds now. The new burning engine in Wavelab 4 is simple to use and complete.

damn........are all you guys using a PC to run roxio? I haven't had any problems using roxio, but Im using a MAC, maybe that explains it.

ACTUALLY... Im usin Roxio on a PC with XP pro and never had a problem. Been that way for about 4 months now

Dude, if you knew the guy...lol. THAT'S A PERFECTLY VALID QUESTION FOR JAMAL...

I'm sure he's checking right now.

I must say the only "wierd" thing i have encountered with roxio is when im using OS X. Sometimes I have a problem with the program getting stuck during a disk image operation, but then i can try the same process in OS 9.2 and then it works just fine........strange huh, but thats the only hic-up so far.

No probs here...Jam burned much pro premasters for me!

(MacOs)

I've been using EZCD Platinum 5X under XP with no problems, on three different machines. I did initailly have some issues with 5.X under Win 98 - EZCD overwrites some .dlls with its own older versions, and this causes problems with some USB devices. There is a fix buried somewhere on the Roxio site about this; I've also posted it here before, and it's on SanDisks site. Win XP doesn't allow EZCD to do this, so it should not be part of your problem.

5.X can be made to work fine if you follow these steps -

1) Uninstall it if it's on your system.

2) Download the latest update from the Roxio site and save it to your C: drive. Its 5.3.4 -

http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/software_updatesv5.jhtml

3) Now install EZCD, and do a "advanced" install. Do NOT install either Direct CD or Take 2 if they are included in your version. Direct CD is not needed, because its built into XP. Take 2 is obsolete. When you finish the install DO NOT REBOOT at the prompt.

4) Now install the newest update. Once that update is installed, reboot the box.

I just went through this exact procedure on a dozen Dell laptops, so I know it works.

You can find more (mostly useless) info here:

Oh and one more thing I forgot - as with any other piece of software under either 2000 or XP, you need admin rights to install it properly.

i only use roxio for burning cd-rw data files, but my wife uses it to burn copies of her sisters CDs.

i did have to install the patch before it would work in XP.

for music, i use sekd samplitude master.

Thanks RWhite for the support and suggestions. I tried your suggestion and it did not work from me. Finally I called tech support as their site is useless. Here is how I got it resolved.

Formerly, I had WinME and Roxio CD Creator 5.0 Platinum and everything worked fine. Last year I upgraded to XP Home Edition. This overwrites some DLL that Roxio needs. When you re-install CD Creator the program will never work because it thinks its DLL is corrupted and is not smart enough to just write over the Windows version. It just can't launch.

Tech support had me download a file which forces the engine to install the dll. This got me through step one which was to get the program working.

Step 2 involved their upgrade not working. It kept telling me that I did not have a valid version of the software. Tech support sent me a link to a program that forces the upgrade.

Now everything works great. No problems. Hope this helps someone.
