I'm going to buy a resonator guitar and would like to know what the differences are in the round neck and square neck as to playing styles? Is this just a preference or are they designed for different styles??
thanks for your input.

What you really want is a redneck.
Sorry, I just couldnt help myself.

One of the necks will feel better. Buy that one.

As an aside, I recently played this old Kalamazoo acoustic that had a triangular scoped neck...pretty comfortable IMHO.

Hi Dick.
My experience with various necks has been favorable, imo.
The triangle, or wedgie and the square took a bit of getting use to, but only for a few minutes.
They were all comfortable as soon as I adjusted to them.

I agree with Slack.
If you are serious about a resonator go to a shop and play the various styles. It's what the thing is made of, the quality, how it feels and how you feel about it comfort wise, that makes all the difference.

Good luck.

The square neck is for slide playing only! When you get the square neck version, the nut has the strings 1/4" or so off the fretboard, even if you lowered the nut, the square shape will not lend itself to conventional fretting. The round neck is for conventional playing...

Squair necks are played across your lap. Sort of like a peddle steel.
