The other day my dad came home from a warehouse he delivers to, and brought me this big cardboard drum (see attached picture). Its pretty good sized with a height of about 3' and a circumference of about 6'. My question is, would it be worth my time to try and make some sort of diffusor out of it? It is made of some pretty thick, heavy card board, so I can imagine it will reflect at least high frequencies fairly effectively. My plan is to possibly cut it either in half or in thirds length wise, then cap off each end with 1/4" ply, and mount the whole bit onto another piece of ply wood to hang on the wall. Possibly even fill them with fiberglass to get some low frequency absorption. then paint them to make it look, well, not like cardboard on my wall lol. As always, any input is appreciated.

Many thanks, Drew

I have a feeling the work going into slicing this thing up carefully, cleanly and accurately will not justify the time and labor involved.

The best part of the wooden box 2x4 absorber, is the simplicity of four boards and some glue/nails/screws/bradnails for the construction.

It may be fun as a challenge making a round bass trap. Dunno if round geometry makes for better or worse performance, or if you'd even notice it. But if the end result looks cool, then the experiment was worth it!

Remember that once you slice up that cardboard, the structural rigidity of those steel rings are lost and the cardboard becomes a wobbly flexible circle. But if you staple your backside fabric to it carefully, it may help to stabilize the circle and keep it round, not oval. That part seems the biggest challenge, to me.

Yeah, thats what I was thinkin. Ill probably just leave it intact then. I get a really cool sound anyways when I Put a mic in it and aim it at whatever Im recording.
