Rough rock mix. Does it have potential?

I was playing around with a guitar riff yesterday and I thought it sounded neat so I recorded it. Then one thing led to another and a song was started. Well, it's not really a song yet... It's basically an idea of a song. All I want to know is if the mix is ok and if the song itself has potential. If not, please tell me so I don't have to waste my time on it anymore. But, if you do like it, please give me some feedback and some constructive criticism. The song is called "Four". Thanks in advance!

I think the song and mix definitely have potential. You've got some good ideas there.

You should bring the guitars up in the mix, and lower the gain on them to try and take a way a lot of that fuzzy sound that you're getting. Maybe boost the mids a little too. I can't tell too much because I can't hear the guitars over the drums very well.

The drums sound quite good. Maybe lower the kick drum a tad, or make it a little bit more dull, but that's only a very SMALL and subtle thing. It sounds good.

Maybe by bringing the guitars up a bit and taking some gain out the bass will gel better with them too.

Just a few things you might want to think about.

Thanks for the reply. I always seem to have a problem with my guitars and their gain... But then again, I am recording direct with a $60 Digitech processor. You know, I thought the drums sounded a little but too loud to me but when I was mixing, it was almost like they demanded to be up front and in your face. I think the cymbals could come down a bit and maybe the bass EQ'ed but I have to agree with everything you said. Thanks again.

No worries.

You're going to be having that problem with what you're recording with. You should invest in a toneport or something man. Gives you a lot of options at a very affordable price.

That being said, try having the gain REALLY low on your guitars and doing more tracks. You might get some desireable results that way.

one of the guitars is a bit fizzy - when things get going it's a little on the muddy side - that China? cymbal sound a bit out of place.
Good riff - work on it & get some good guitar tones to make it worth while.

Yeah the guitars have way too much direct fuzz going on. The riff idea is okay, but kinda boring.
