Very good job,

Very clear and good production.

I don't listen to much rap but
I just feel like the bass hits in the beat could be more prominent.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking that the bass could come up a bit too.

other then that i really like it
his voice is sort of a mix of eminem meets fabolous
and you captured it very well

i agree. good tune, good mix. just one question...

very eminem, but not in the bad way.

what's your inspiration on using this certain kind of kick, rather than the traditional 808 like 95% of hip hop uses?

Well, I only did the mixing, but I did change the kick sound. The one that they had was a regular acoustic kick like I used, but it was flappy, and I wanted something much more solid. I love the sound of the kick I used, too much in fact........I use it way too much. :)

Here is the old mix until I get the new one up -

Ok, pumped the bass up a bit, and brought the vox down a hair. Some very minor additional tweaks.

Man lol VERY eminem! Good stuff tho ;) I like how defined the voice is and how it stands out. I really like the groove. I would kinda question some of the background happenings going on, but overall I really like how it feels.

I think the mix sounds great. As for composition, I know this is not the place but I'm compelled to give opinion nonetheless. Great delivery when the lyrics kick in, a little overextended on the prelude, though very choice, and I would add one crucial (well, I feel crucial anyway) word to the title for marketability and to relate to the audience...MY Motivation. Slide that little word in, and you've got yourself a bonafide rap hit. Oh yeah, that and get some better equipment, you f***in' gear slut.;)

And don't forget to give me some honest advice on my thread in the Recording Techniques forum of a dry drum sample. I'm looking for suggestions since I went from digital DM Pro kit to acoustic mic'd.

I like it.... I was initially interested because I just commited to producing a rap artist... a first for me. But, I enjoyed the tune....

Yay!

Nice.

Love the song! Did you track the vocals in a treated room?

To me the vocals seem a tad dark. But im not too sure what your going for. I like how the main vocal is huge. Im curious to know how much compression you used on the talent voice.

Wow. This is an old thread!

The vocals were tracked in a large uneven (non-parralel) room. There was quite a bit of compression at the tracking stage, and quite a bit more at the mix stage.

Hope that helps, thanks for listening!
