Just curious what would be a better buy....Im looking for a solid and versatyle synth or module.....I already sequence with my computer so a workstation isnt necessary even tho I would like to have one...

But as far a features go which is more powerful? Which has a better effects processor and better range of different sounds...
The main reason Im really considering the XV 5080 is because it is very expandable...

once again i'd have to say the motif. the preset sounds are better, the sampler is better (allthough only expandable to 64 megs.. sob), the effect section is way way better (something roland have never understood the importance of and the effects section is basically what makes the yammi sampler better..)
the xv basically only play back samples and i hate comparing it to a "real" samlper.. but i've never worked with the sampler part so i don't know if it's got some extra cool thingy instead. I know that since the effect section ain't big and you can't resample your audio, you're stuck with the dry sample and some added parallel effects.. done my homework :D

the xv was one of the best products untill some time ago but all the innovation is practically standard now and the sample/synth/sequencer integration in the motif is way better than rolands.

the Motif is also expandable with the DX200 and AN200 cards which gives you FM and Analogue Modeling Synthesis.. now the Roland hasn't got anything like that.
The Motif is in reality more expandable than the Roland (except the ram.

How many layers of effects can you have on the Motif...I heard on the 5080 its 3 which isn't and I also heard its got some good effects...how are the effects on the Motif..?

splendid.. since you can resample, which you can't on the xv, you can have an unlimited amount of effects layering on the samples.. on the sounds you got *copy and pastes..*:
Effects Reverb x 12 types, Chorus x 25 types, Insertion 1 x 25 types,Insertion 2 x 104 types, Variation x 25 types (available for Performance/Song),Master Equalizer (5 bands),Plug-in Insertion (available when the PLG100-VH is installed in slot 1)
