Hi,

I have recently bought 2 expansion cards for the XP-80 (for the first time), but have found that most patches distort and are unusable. I took the keyboard to a local repairer but they could not find anything obviously wrong, and advised me that there would be little point in sending back to Roland since repair, if possible, would be very expensive compared to the current keyboard price (XP-80 is over 10 years old). Also if a new motherboard were needed this would be very pricey. All other functions of the XP-80 are fine and I am not sure what to do to resolve the problem of the expansion boards. Any advice or suggestions would be very welcome...

Thanks

Try the following:

1) BACKUP your presets to a floppy disk or computer if you have stuff you want to save.

2) Power off the XP-80 and unplug it.

3) Remove the backup battery for about a minute.

4) Replace the battery

5) Power the XP-80 up

6) Reinitialize the XP-80 memory to factory default.

7) Test your expansion cards.

You should sign up with the Roland user's forum-there are lots of Roland owners that will most likely have some suggestions or maybe the answers to your questions. I think this link will get you there...
