roland vs880 to pc

I'm a new Roland vs880 user and I'm wondering whether or not I can connect the vs880 to my pc through my soundblaster live pci card and transfer tracks to cakewalk 9. Is this even possible? Do I need additional hardware?

I know this is a vague question but I'd appreciate any response.

I dont know alot about your setup, but I would assume you could go from your VS stereo outputs into your sound card. (Probably 1/8 inch)

Then choose your sound card as your input in Cakewalk.

ok i'm and idiot

Well, my soundblaster card doesn't take 1/8" cables.

After reading the 30 or so posts on this same subject I was able to sync up the MTC between the Roland and Cakewalk...sort of.

When I pressed play on the Roland I could see Cakewalk responding but there was no sound. I don't think it was actually recording anything in Cakewalk. I'm connecting the two with a midi (Roland) to joystick (soundcard) cable.

Does anyone have some idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Thats not what Midi is used for in this case. It only Synchs the computer and the Vs880 for timing purposes. In other words to make sure the tracks start at the same time.
Its rare for me to use my 880 anymore but when I do its Synched to a Layla which has spdif. You should aquire a Spdif capable soundcard like an Audiophile 2496. You will be able to transfer 2 seperate tracks at a time to cakewalk then.

Hi Trane65...

Just for make sure... Midi Cable do not transport audio signal.
You must have an 1/8" input on your soundblaster card. You have to take your output signal from you VS (Main output) into your "Line In" of your SB-Live. For that, you while need a cable with two RCA connector on one side, and one 1/8" stereo connector on the other side.

If from there, you do not have a signal into Cakewalk, two things are possibles. #1 : Wrong input source are choosen inside Cakewalk. #2 : No audio signal goes out from your Main output of your VS. Try to plug it directly into your home sound system.
