Hello all,

I traded one of my guitars for a Roland VS1824CD. It's got a couple of problems, the headphone jack doesn't work for one. More serious is that the internal CDRW drive doesn't work, I put in a disc and the "insert CD" message comes up on screen. Do I need to replace the whole drive? Can I use any unit or is it proprietary to Roland? Sending it in to the local agent/dealer means hefty cost and at least two months waiting for the part to arrive from Japan, unles I pay a hefty courier charge as well.

If I want to connect an external CDRW via the SCSI port, can I use any off the shelf unit or am I required to use a Roland product? Again, the local dealer doesn't have it in stock.

Thanks, hope someone can help me out!

Regarding the headphone jack- Make sure the level controls for the monitors *and* the headphone jack are turned up. The stupid things are linked, like the volume controls on a Les Paul. You have to actually turn off the monitors when tracking. 2.- Put a laser lens cleaner disc in there and use it. If the CDR drive doesn't work, yes, it can be replaced with any standard unit, about $40 new. Feel free to email or PM me. I have logged literally thousands of hours with a VS1824CD, and I should be a pretty good resource for you.-Richie
