Hello,
I'm new to homerecording and I found this forum, so I figured I'd ask. I am trying to record drums, guitar, bass, and vocals. I get really bad quality, but I read something off this site about the mic jack on sound cards. It said I should use line in instead, but I don't have line in (my sound cards suck). My question is, should I get a better sound card or the Roland UA-30 Interface box? I found this http://www.videocanvas.com/shop/prod-page.ddp?itemcode=362169&session=71229361 Would it be good quality? I eventually want to record our CD. Right now, we are just goofing off. The thing is, my room is really small (where my computer is) and we play in the garage. I didn't want to move my computer and there isn't enough space to play in my room, so I got a laptop. If I should get a better sound card, what kind should I get, it has to be pcmcia. My other question is, once I get the sound card/interface, how should I go about recording? We used to get a local radio station in our amps, so we would plug the guitar right into the sound card, it work alright, but the bass was so quiet, you couldn't even tell it was there. My guitar teacher said plugging the amp into the computer would sound bad. How would I go about it? I heard something about a direct box and found some pages on it, but I don't really understand what it does, would I need one of those? Thanks for the help!

Would I be better just to make the amp instead of trying to play into my computer?
