Ive been looking at the TD8 for a while but just came across a TD5 for not that much $$....to tide me over till the TD8. Just wondering if its any good...in terms of quality of drum sounds and sensitivity.
The td-5 is mot bad. You would be better off buying the alesis DM-4. I owned the TD5 and TD8. The Td-8 is a great machine. The td5 is another story...my td5 is very finicky, especially with the kd7 kick trigger. You have to make sure you set the Mask Time properly to get the unit to function optimally. The sounds in the TD-5 are not that good. I like th sounds in my DR660 and DR5 drum machines by oland better. I only use the TD5 to send Midi note on messages to my drum machines. The cymbals in the TD5 blow, the snares sound like newspaper laid over a cardboard box. If that cold midi sound from the 80's is your thing, then get the td5. If not, then hold off and by the TD8.
I just grabbed a V-Studio kit with the TD-8. There's a lot of stuff on this module that I'll never use (Jamaican Peanut Butter kit, Kerosene Surprise, Squeeling Vespas!), but I'm impressed with how much tweeking of drum and cymbal parameters it offers: drum size, depth, material, head type, room type/size, individual eq, gate, etc.
The sounds are pretty amazing, too. Very realistic and recordable.
The manual is a little weird, having been written by euro-nuts, but I think I'm going to be real happy when I get familiar with this unit.
