Bring Back Transfat!
Anybody have any experience with the VM-3100 Pro or the Studio package they put together? Worth while or just another cheap toy like the Peavey/Cakewalk thingie?

Can't find a large picture of the interface...does this thing have transport controls as well as mixer functions? Sounds like it has decent converters and computer interface card. 12 ins with two pres.

I don't have a mixer right now and am replacing a Darla24 with an Omni Studio unless anybody thinks this Roland package would be a better value.

Nothing comes up in a search. Any thoughts or comments?

I have it. I use Sonar not the Logic that came with it. I think the price is good for what you get. It does have midi transport controls for an external sequencer. I am assuming it is MMC and can be used to control Sonar. It has stop, play, rewind, record buttons. The preamps are log taper and sending a light mic signal requires a fine touch at the end of the pot range. The preamps are hissy at that extreme range. I would suggest always using a preamp before the mixer. The PCI card and drivers are from M-Audio. The max sample rate is 44.1. 48 kHz is not possible. But it is 24 bit. The manual that came with it is a joke. The supplemental manual on the Roland site does clear up a lot that the manual misses.

Don’t know anything about the Peavy thing. It was good for me because I can record 8 in for drums and use effects like compression and limiting on the kick and snare. I have no outboard effects so it saved me the cost of buying that.

I have limited knowledge about recording equipment but I would think it would be good for the following:

1. A beginner who has a good computer and has intuitive quick leaning capabilities and no other recording equipment. If you can’t even program a Zoom box I would look elsewhere or expect a long learning curve and have patience.
2. An intermediate with low funds that happens to have a good computer.

It’s kind of like a VS880. I had some experience on that cause I borrowed a unit from a friend. The effects are the same old Roland effects.

.

i own a studio pack,

i dont have much experience, but i like it, it just works fine for me, a havent had any problems and i was able to use it only by reading the manual. it does has transport functions. and you can change the config of the mixer to logic, cakewalk,.. you can control it trough your logic, logic alerady comes with an enviroment for use with the vm-3100pro. i found studioware panels for cakewalk-vm3100pro, , on the japanese roland site, and the work fine for me. i havent tryed the peavey-sonar thing you mentioned. it supports wdm drivers if you have windows Me.. ad if you get the dif-at interface you can connect any adat stuff to the mixer or to the rpc card. the card supports 48 khz sampling but the mixer just supports 41 khz.
the mixer has also 2 digital inputs.

thats all i remember now..

if you need the studioware panel, i can give you the url... it was a little bit difficult to find it.

I'd like to see that Studioware Panel download. Can you post the URL? Thanks.
