Hey guys, I have a chance to maybe get a Roland Space Echo re-150 for next to nothing - am I going to forever be haunted by the fact that it's not a 201?

I have never had the chance to use one but if it's a good deal and works fine I think you should jump on it.

The 150 is strictly a tape echo (a good basic tape delay) and the 201 also has spring reverb. Can you live without a spring reverb? Other than that, I think they're both similar. Remember that these use heads so check for wear. For "next to nothing" is subjective but if you're talking in single or double digits then go for it. Usually 201's go for crazy money.

plus the spring reverb in the 201 is kinda funky sounding. I always left mine turned off because it sounded like the cheapest of cheap boingy reverbs.

If it's next to nothing get it! If a 201 turns up later get that as well. Remember nothing may turn up in the future then you won't have either.

Cheers
Alan.

The "regular" market price for a Roland RE tape "echo" machine (with or without spring) is somewhere between $400 and $800.
You are welcome to mention this to the person who was going to give you RE-150 for next to nothing . After that you can hold out to avoid being haunted forever ;)
