I was in the market for a sound module and basically wanted suggestions on the different models im looking into

1. jv 2080
2. xv 3080
3. xv 5080

for price i was looking at the jv 2080 but i wondering if it is worth it to just wait and save a little more to get the xv3080. i wanted to know the pros and cons of both and can the xv3080 be upgraded with the sounds of the xv5080 which i will admit is out of my price range.

any help would greatly be appreciated,

thanks

I don't really know the big differences between the JV2080 and XV3080, except for the newer sounds, and the possibility to put the new expansion boards in...

But if memory serves me right, you can load samples with the XV5080, so it's kindof a sampler, which really is a step up. I don't know if you can sample with it yourself, but I believe it allows you to load samples via SCSI...

JV2080: older synth engine, 64-not polyphony, additional FX engine, SR-JV card expandability

XV3080: updated synth engine, stereo samples, 128-note polyphony, new FX engine, accepts SR-JV and SRX expansion cards

XV5080: same as 3080 but can also load Akai, WAV and AIFF samples in 128Mb sample RAM area, 5 FX processors, digital outs, SCSI interface. Accepts SR-JV and SRX expansion cards.

The filters on the XV-3050 and XV-5080 are different than the JV line of modules. Very clear and detailed. A little bit bright IMHO but still very good. The added polyphony alone make the XV-series better than the JV-2080, and because they sometimes use stereo samples they eat up polyphony like crazy.

There is a new Roland module that was announced at NAMM. The 5050 ? It will have lots of the sounds of a XV-5080 at a more reasonable price.

You're right brzilian. I've seen the 5050 ads in magazines for months.

I bought the 5050 last week and have been impressed. Of course anything would probably have impressed me since this is my first unit and I'm not a keyboard player.

It has a broad palette of sounds, regular MIDI and USB MIDI connections (which apparenyly can be used simultaneously), 3 pairs of stereo outs, SPDIF outs (digital and optical), 2 expansion slots, sounds are editable, yada yada...

750 bones at GC.
