I was given an old Roland SC-155. I was wondering if it could be used as a controller in software applications such as Cubase SX or Pro Tools LE.

If you mean a controller as in sending controller messages (not note on and off messages like a keyboard would), then, yes.

It has small faders. Could it be used as a control surface?

Yes, that's what I was talking about. It has faders and knobs but no keyboards.

If I have pro tools, what software would i need to use the device as a controller?

I don't think you need any software. Pro Tools can respond to MIDI controller messages. You probably need some sort of way to assign the MIDI messages from the SC to what you want them to control in the software, which no doubt Pro Tools provides... and it's likely something that can be saved as a preset or a loadable configuration that you might be able to get from Pro Tools' website or elsewhere off the net...
