Roland JV 1080 with Cakewalk

Hi this my first post, and id like to use this oppertunity to post a question. I use cakewalk9 pro audio for my recordings, and own a soundblasterlive as my primary audio-playback and a Maya44(for my recordings) and a miditrak2120, both from "AudioTrak". I usually Record guitarplay, but i have some other music equipment that i would put to use with cakewalk. A Roland JV 1080 is what's my question's about.

I'm not quite sure how to connect my roland modul to my Pc and get them to work together with my software, Cakewalk. I think the best way would be to use my twincard miditrak2120 for this task, i've heard that i might have to preform a system dump from my Roland to get it to work with my software, which means that I can play through my keyboard, which communicates with my Roland which is connected to my miditrak2120. Since the midi effects which reisde on my Roland, and isn't available on my pc sound hardware, because when i'm to record this Cakewalk only plays the midisignals i've recorded, and not the effects on my roland. I might need to preform that system-dump from Roland to my computer, and that's where i'm stuck. I know Roland jv1080 has a system dump function, but i don't know how this dump is compatible with cakewalk or my pc-system in general.

In essence, i would like to make my pc to fully functioning audio recording system, what it laks now, is that i need to get calkwalk to record my midi signals and then communicate with my Roland so that in effect, my cakewalk will play the midi sequence with my roland effects, and not general midi.

I've know theres other features for Cakewalk as well, such as "pannels". I havn't yet been fortunate enough to find any software-pannels for cakewalk, for Roland JV 1080.

If anyone have any suggestions on how i can get my cakewalk to record directly from my keyboard input -> through my Roland to my pc i would greatly appreciate it. I'm sure theres an easier way too, if anyone know how to do this, please let me know.

i use the roland xv-3080.

i have my keyboard (midi out) connected to my soundcard (midi in), and the xv-3080 (midi in) connected to the soundcard (midi out). essentially, the keyboard is just a controller and the xv-3080 plays the sounds.

cakewalk has the ability to control the fx of your sound module through control parameters (RPN and NRPN) and also through SYSEX. dig into your roland manual to figure out how to create the proper sysex messages.

I have a Roland JV1010 and use Cakewalk SONAR. So it's basically the same setup you are looking for. I downloaded the driver for the JV1010 from www.midi-it.com. Download this and run it. You should see this on cakewalk MIDI tracks when you choose to select input/output. This will then show you all the sound effects you need. It's fairly simple.

I have a M-Audio USB 2x2. One in/out I use for the JV1010. The other in/out I have my Keyboard connected. This way I use my keyboard as the controller and also to play piano and record it to audio tracks!! So it's really convenient!!!! To use your keyboard as the controller, you don't need any drivers. Once you are connected with MIDI cables you are set to go. If you have track #1 with a particular sound effect you need, then simply "select" that track with your mouse. The keyboard will play whatever track you have selected.

First make sure you can activate your synth with your keyboard. If this works then you are set to record. You can play your keyboard and record your 1080 sounds as audio tracks.

I have not had the need to do any system dump.

If you still have problems, don't hesitate to call Roland customer support. They helped me out earlier to set up the JV1010.
