I've read many posts about these three mics and for the most part none of them lead me to a decision. I already understand there are many variables and blah blah blah. I'm used to using shit and believe all of them will sound better than what I've been using (Zoom Digital Recorder with built in mic and computer mics... which sound suprising ok, but not pro). I want a natural sound. Which of these is the most natural sounding overall for acoustic, drum, and vox. I don't care about the price... which one do you think is the best. I'd prefer less comparison of the mics and just choices if possible. Thats pry hard... but if you could choose one which would you say? I'm the guy who goes to Denny's and can't decide because there are soooooo many options. One more thing... I'm using an mbox and Logic. Thanks for your time.

Hello id welcome to the zoo!!!!! :laughings:

If I had to pick one it would be the 414. ;)

dude, everything on the menu at Denny's is good. you can't go wrong.

By natural, do you mean transparent. As in what you hear is what you get?

You might want to add Shure KSM44a to that list. If I had a choice it'd be KSM44a or AT4050. But all of those should be decent in their own right. The Rode NTG-2 is too directional IMO. i.e. specialized use. The rest have selectable directionality and better specs IMO.

Maybe research some of Rode's other offerings? I can't comment on the ones listed (not much help I know), but I have owned an NTK in the past, and it was fantastic. Perhaps look into the NT-1 or NT-2?

The 414 is anything but natural sounding. Every version has its own form of high and/or low frequency sonic hype built in. You either like what they do or you don't. My 414 TL2 is great on some things and terrible on others. My experience has been that they are also quite inconsistent from unit to unit.

The 4050 is reported to be smoother and consistent from one to another. I'd be inclined to recommend it over the 414 for these reasons.

thanks

thanks a lot that is very helpful. i think i'm going with the 4050 and a couple 4041's for $700. think thats a good deal?
