I just got my "new"? Rode NTK today. Is the box supposed to wrapped in shrink wrap? Seems like I have been sent a returned mic. If this is the case, I feel like I am getting less than a new mic.
Now I'm debating if I'm going to keep it. Any thoughts?

My Ntk box was wrapped in shrinkwrap. That is normal.
Enjoy. I have an NTK and NTV and like them both. It really sounds alot better if you wait 45 minutes for the tube to warm up.

Chill, dude... they come that way. (shrinkwrapped)

Good advice on the warm-up period... let that baby get HOT!! ;)

Sorry for the confusion... The box I received was not shrinkwrapped.

my ntk box didn't come shrinkwrapped and it came from zzounds.com so i'm pretty sure it was new unless they knew something i didn't.

i wouldn't be too happy with an unshrink box. everything i ever got from rode was shrink.

I've decided to send the mic back. When I pay for something new I expect it to come in a factory sealed box.

Oh well back to the drawing board...:(

it' s ok.. they'll just send it to somebody else who's gonna return it too and then resend and .....

You sent it back?

Man, that's alot of worry over a flimsy little piece of plastic.

It's very likely that some worker at the store where you bought it ripped the plastic (or it was already ripped) and they just removed the rest.

Companies are required BY LAW to inform you if the product is a re-conditioned piece, so it's definitely NOT a "factory second."
Also, the mic would've been considerably cheaper for being a re-conditioned piece.

I hope it didn't cost you extra $$$ to ship it back, or that would've been a waste of money. (...and time!)

Most likely, they have a shrinkwrap machine at the store.
They'll probably shrinkwrap the same mic and send it right back to you at an extra cost.

I'm curious... what excuse did you give for the return?

I sent it back for several reasons. When I took the power supply out of the box the power switch was already in the on position. Also, the blue led came on immediately. I read in the manual that the led is not supposed to come on immediately.

When I get a product that has been factory sealed it gives me peace of mind. At least I know that it has not been tampered with.

I called Rode about packing

I ordered a Rode NTK mic from Riksmusic (best price I've found so far, which included shipping) - Since they were lower than anyone else I specifically asked if it was a brand new mic and if it was shrink wrapped.
The guy assured me it was a new mic & told me that Rode stopped shrink wrapping their mic's & that they have been opening the mics to make sure the cables were ok - apparantly they had a few sent out where the mic cable wire was exposed (something w/ the sheath) - the mics worked fine, but the cable was a little messed up - he also added that rode immediately sent the customers new cables.

I called Rode and asked them what I should expect with my shipment. The technician informed that they were no longer shrink wrapping mics & that the cable should be wrapped neatly around the unit. he also told me to make sure the cables were ok.

so, it seems rode is not longer shrink wrapping... just some f.y.i.

i got my UPS notification the same day (today) ...so I can't wait... I'll follow up if I have any problems.

My NTK wasn't wearing a rubber when I got it. I'm pretty sure it was still a virgin though. Oh, and the blue light comes on immediately these days, no foreplay required.

I have had exactly the same experience. I believe my NTK came from Riksmusic as well actually. It was not shrinkwrapped, however it was brand new. And the blue light did come on immediately as well. They're great mics...I love mine.

Well, I didn’t send my mic back after all. I wrote Rode about the shrink-wrapping and they told me they were no longer doing that. The guy that I bought my mic from said that he was having a bit of trouble because of the shrink-wrap issue. So, evidently I’m not the only person that had a problem with it.

The tech also told me that the manuals haven’t been updated yet. So the light is supposed to come on immediately. After listening to the mic closely I just couldn’t send it back. The more I use it the more I like it.
