Hey I am looking for the best Mic for male baritone range rock and smooth vocals, within a 600.00 to 700.00 dollar range.
I have narrowed it down to the Solidtube and AKG, but am up for new ideas as well.
I have done alot of research and am leaning toword the Rode NTK for deeper male vocals. I'm not a bass but am pretty close.

Any thoughts would be GREAT!
Thanks for you time :)

I realize you've narrowed down your choices, but have you considered:

1) Rode K2 or NT2000;
2) ADK TC;
3) Studo Projects T3;
4) Used Gefell M71s or M930;
4) Used CAD VX2 or new CAD VSM1.

RockNSoul, we've found both the NTK and the Solidtube to be fairly lousy mics compared to other mics in a similar price range. The NTK kinda sucks. The Solidtube really sucks.

Whatever you decide, I can at least confirm that the following mics would work well and are all above the pack in their price ranges:

ADK TC
MXL V69ME

AKG 414 B-ULS (used)
ADK Vienna or Hamburg

Shure SM7B

I think the Solid Tube is exellent choice and better for vocals than 414 ULS. The C4000B is also good piece of gear. You have to try it and fall in love;). I have always wondered why guys here hate this product and appriciate thoses hyped "china" copies. AKG have a strong product development compared to these cheap copies, this is my opinion.

I don't agree with Dot (there's a first) I have an NTK and replaced the tube. It really filled out nicely and, while it isn't in the same class as my Brauner, gets plenty of use. I do like the list sdelsolray compiled, very nice contenders for a low tenor or anyone for that matter

...I have to agree with BK...we use both the NTK and the K2 (both w/upgraded NOS tubes) with great success on R&B/Hiphop, Reggae and Metal Rock vocals (baritone range in particular)...most of our artists like the way they sound on the NTK...I know quite a few other small studios here in S. FL that specialize in R&B/Hiphop/Rap (baritone voices are fairly common in Hiphop) and the NTK is standard equipment among them...it's probably one of the more popular mics in the R&B/Hiphop community because of it's price and sound character (seems most people either love it or hate it)...I'd recommend it...

Awesome! Thank you for all of your time and knowledge! Its very cool of yall to spend time on here helping out people who may not know alot! ROCK ON!!! :)

Anyways over the past few days I did alot of research on all of the mics yall thought might be good to look at. I have now narrowed it down to.....

1) Rode NTK
2) Rode NT 2000
3) Gefell M71
4) Gefell M930

A used M930 is a bit pricey compaired to the others, does anyone think it would be that much better?

Also the NT 2000 has the Cardioid, Omni and Figure 8, thats variable so you can mix it up and have a combo. Does anyone think this would be of help even though I just want it for vocals? Or mabey it would be a waste and I should just get the NTK.

I am off to research more just thought I'd say thanks for tha help!

Keep reading and researching and most of all TRY THEM OUT! The gefell is great but there's a bunch of mics out there that sound great

DOT must have dropped an NTK on his foot, damaging both his foot and the mic in the process. The NTK is a fine mic, and should remain on your short list, IMHO.
