When I try to use my NTK with my MQ3 there's this loud hum, and I can't figure out what's going on. I tried the ground lift on the NTK power supply and that didn't fix the problem. I also tried swapping out cables (both the mic cable and the cable going to my patchbay) and that didn't help. Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Your cable OR your mic sounds like it has a broken wire. Try another cable. If that is good, then measure with an ohm meter between pins 1 and 2, 1 and 3. There should not be any opens between these pins. The "hum" sounds like the +48v phantom power leaking through. The only other suspect is the MQ3. If a cap is leaking, or shorted, or missing, the DC will get by. Try turning off the phantom power and see if the hum goes away.

So.
1. Try another mic.
2. Try another (known good) cable.
3. Try a dynamic with no phantom power.

If the above does not solve the problem:
return the MQ3

It works with all my other mics. It doesn't matter which cable I use. I did flip the phantom off. None of these fixed the problem. I guess I'll look into returning the MQ3. Thanks.
