Hi

I am using a Mackie ProFX8 mixer and am having poor sound from new Rode NT1A. No problem with Shure SM58 but distorted sound with Rode. Do I need a pre-amp for this Mic setup? I am new to recording so this may be a silly question. I am also using two Roland Mini Cubes as my speakers and am wondering if these might not be compatible with Rode NT1A mic?

Thanks

Sean

Can we assume you have the phantom power switched on...?

Hi,
The mackie mixer has preamps built in with phantom power.

Make sure you're plugging in with an XLR to XLR cable, and make sure phantom power is on.
If you're already doing that, is there any chance the gain is too high or you're too loud/too close to the mic?

An nt1a will have a much higher output than a 58, so it's much easier to over do it.
