RODE NT1

My goodness ... Nearly spit a mouthful of Dew allover the keyboard at the thought of comparing a large-diaphragm condenser, even the low-cost NT1 (nothing against them -- I own one and LOVE it) to a DYNAMIC mic like the 57!!! You can't hear a difference??? Perhaps it's your preamps, then. I'm not sure why anyone would want to record vocals on a dynamic mic at all, unless you're going for a certain effect. Dynamic mics are inherently inaccurate as far as transient response unless you spend bucks. That's part of their appeal and sound, of course. But for vox, I like to hear every detail.

For the record, I highly recommend the NT1 to anyone on a budget. It's a perfect choice for your first large diaphragm condenser.

CyanJaguar ... Perhaps switch on the bass roll-off on your mixer. I always do when recording vox above a bass range. I've never noticed much muddiness, even with no roll-off, but as was mentioned earlier in this forum, the capsules can be very different from mic to mic.

yes...the capsules can be very different. I am convinced that my NT1 was defective as my 57 outdid it basically. (I hope the dew doesn't make your sliders sticky, btw). I got a MXL2001P in today and their IS a decent difference, and night and day to my 57. I was using the comparision in my previous posts to illustrate my point. And....you've never seen an RE20 in a studio on vocals?...or a 57? Really?....hhmmmm.

Yes, hmmm.

By the way, I think most large diaphragm condensrs we all seem to love color the sound a lot more than a lot of dynamics.

is that a "yes"...I've seen em used...or "yes"...I have NEVER seen em used ??

btw...I am really liking this MXL2001P...

I was agreeing that the following is odd:

"And....you've never seen an RE20 in a studio on vocals?...or a 57? Really?....hhmmmm."

And I'm glad you're liking your MXL 2001P... I'm liking lots of mics I do and don't have too.
