OK, besides the omni/cardioid switch and the dB pad, is there any difference between the Rode NT1 and NT2 besides $200? You know, in terms of sound quality etc... I tried the NT2 and it sounds amazing... does the NT1 sound as good?

thanks, this is my first post...

I bought an nt2 back in october of 2000 after spending six months in a project stuido working on a demo. After trying several mics for acoustic guitar and vocals, I fell in love with the nt2. I did not like the nt1 at all, but that could be just my perception of the audio and the gear we were using. Anyway, the nt2 has become a staple for my project recordings. A few months back, I upgraded the nt2 to the rode ntv. once again , I am very happy with it's performance with the gear i have and the little recording knowledge that i have...they are two different animals, both of which will stay in my mic locker.

hope this helps...

nt1 is good

I don't know about the different specs of the two mics but I have 2 nt1 mics and have used them for drum o/h and voc and guitar and have had good /great results. the extras on the nt2 would be great if only for the time they can save you(I dont have a problem with time). I also have 2 nt3 mics and have used them for the same thing with the same results ,I can't say a bad thing about them. But the thing that I would do is spend as much as I can on mics as that is where it all starts(opps after the original sound source)

I agree with Rocky...I just didn't really like the nt1 for my vocals and my vocal style...it sounded brittle to my ears, and the nt2 was significantly warmer. On the other hand, I just spoke with an old friend that has been using the nt1's on his kit for overheads for the past few years...and according to him, he has been really pleased, especially for the $. He finally just upgraded to some akg 414's. (some people say these are too dark) I guess it's just a matter of what you are going to use the microphone for, and if it is suited for that application...to your ears.

Thanks for the advice! Since I'll be using it mostly for vocals and such, looks like I'll be going with the NT2. Very helpful replys! -Q
