I'm sure theres a similar thread on here somewhere but I wanted to see if I could get some input on a certain subject. I bought a Rode K2 a couple of months ago and have even upgraded the tubes with the help from kidvybes. Before, I was using a Shure SM-58 to record my vocal tracks and all of our recordings sounded great, so I thought that adding a condencer would make it that much better. For some reason tho, the vocals just sound distant or not right now. I don't think it's a problem with the mic because I recorded some stuff for a friend and it sounded great, so maybe it's just our style? We play rockish/raggae with more hip hop type rhythmic vocals. Is there another condencer in this price range that may work better for me? Thanks :)

The similar thread is located a few threads below this one. Looks like you doubleposted it.
Can't help you though. Maybe you should sing closer to the mic for some added proximmity effect, or kick in some low end on the EQ. Just the first thing that came up in my head.

A few things, first, do you have it set on the right polar pattern? (Either cardioid for moderate proximity and figure 8 for max proximity) And assuming you have the polar pattern set right, are you certain you are using the proper side of the mic? I don't mean to be condescending, but I have seen it before. Lastly, what sort of room are you recording in? Assuming the above is set right, try recording in a fullish coat closet to mimic an iso booth and see if you like the results. You may simply be getting too much room now that you have switched to a condenser.

Any of the above mentioned issues could be a problem - especially if you were using a 58 before, which I think will pick up less room than a condenser will. Plus, if you have it set on Figure 8 or omni, you are getting even more of the room.

I have a mod'd K2 myself, and everyone I record vocals for sounds great - but that's in a small room, usually in a corner with mattresses and other materials around to deaden the room reflection, and the pattern set to cardioid. If you are going live and tracking vocals out in the middle of the room somewhere, that might also add to the problem.
