Hello All

This should make you chuckle ! I've finally got myself some equipment and had a bash at this recording malarky. The Acoustic is dead as a DoDo as I spent all mi pennies on recording equipment and had nothing left for strings, I can't play bass on a keyboard and the drums are terrible. Anyway, please feel free to rip it apart, I'm listening.

Equipment:
Logic Express 9 on a Mac Book Pro. An SE2200A plugged into an EDIROL FA66.
KRK VXT4 monitors because my studio is smaller than most peoples wardrobes.

Well, the double tracking could be tighter.
The backing harmonies need to come way up.
I think I heard a tinkle of a piano there at the end but no piano break.
The guitar chord voicing should include the suspensions and dominant 7th where they occur.
Vocal timbre is pleasing and in places sounds a lot like McCartney. Did you sample the original at the end?

Yep was going to leave it at just one vocal track but it sounded very flat so just threw the best two together (mind you it worked for Macca, oh yeh that's cos he's good !) No Piano just cello towards the end, unless you mean where I faded in 'THE BEATLES' at the end (that was just for comparison). I'll try the vocals again and repost in a day or two. Will have to check the proper chords out just tried it by ear (the big left one).

But thank you it's nice to get some feedback, anyone else ?

Pretty cool! You can definitely play and you can definitely sing. And you can make your new gear work. I look forward to hearing where you go from here:)

Doubling is super tough - the mix on them is good though. I'm lovin' the whole mix and the performance is equally good. Your investment has paid off. Now get yourself some strings!

Well, thank you very muchly gentlemen ! I'll definitely have another go if you think its not three bad, I've bought some strings, and a new bridge as the old one had a huge lean on it (it was trying to make it's escape as I buried a piezo under it badly about 15 years ago and made a pigs ear of it). I've re listened to Mr McCartney and I now hear the fancy suspended fourths and dominant sevenths (I think) so I will find out what they are and play them instead !
I have many songs of my own that I want to record now I have some equipment so I'll post them here if people are interested in listening to them. Especially as I also have the advantage of living on a canal boat (Widebeam Barge in the North of England) so I can scream and holler to mi hearts content and not bother anyone ! I must admit I've learnt an incredible amount in just the last few weeks reading the Orange Home studio set up book by Ben Harris along with this forum so thank you one and all I am indebted to your comments.

Rocky Racoon Rides Again ! Mix Improved ? You tell me !

Gentlemen,

After much reading of your forum (particularly the very good tips on micing up acoustic guitars) I have re-recorded and re-mixed a good proportion of the Rocky Racoon Track. I used two mic's on the acoustic (sE2200 at the twelfth fret and an SM58 just back from the sound hole(near my hand)). I finally bought some new strings, fitted a bridge that doesn't lean over and hey presto it sounds better. I tried to learn the propper chords for the song but there's loads of mistakes and buzzing going on but I'm more interested in what you think to the mix than my dreadful guitar playing. Didn't redo the vocals and probably wont now (The problem I'm finding with recording is that you need another entire life time just to do it justice, they better come up with immortality soon, I've got far too much to do for just two or three lifetimes !")

It might be a bit bassy but I was trying to mix with headphones (and not wake everyone up !) Definately got a boom going on with the acoustic, must try to tweak that out without making it sound tinny, any suggestions ?

Is there a cello in the mix? Sounds good but the bass is on the boomy side. Adjust the bass a little, not too much though, it did add more body to the mix.
