Well, this is a cover of the Beatles song Rocky Racoon that I just recorded. I played and recorded everything except, the drums and keys were my roomate.

I know there was a 'post your favorite cover' thread a while back, but this song wasn't done in time. So, I'm anxious to hear your input. Thanks.

Its called 'Rocky' at IUMA

Hey Gnarled:

I hate that song anyway, but that's not the point, I guess.

Sounded like a pretty good cover of it.
The levels were all easy on the ears, and the mix was quite even.

Not bad.

Thanks for the response VI.

Anyone else care to pick it apart a little?

Hi...

Big Beatle fan here...

The recording is good. I like the overall effect, especially the "octave" thing on the vocal.

The lead guitar break maybe needs a little reverb? It didn't "sit" too well thru my speakers.

Finally...you might try bringing it down a step or two (I think the original is in A minor, right? Maybe you could use a capo and do it in G minor. It's really tough to hit those McCartney high notes. Believe me, I try all the time!).

Thanks for sharing the song...BobO.

Actually I did have a LOT of trouble with the vocals. Not recording wise, but the performance. Transposing it probably would have helped a lot - good idea.

Thanks for the comments bobo.

Hey:
At least i was the first to give it a listen and respond after 30 viewings.

You call THAT picking it apart?

GEEEZZZZZ....Touchy.

Actually, that statement was unrelated to your post. I was just encouraging anyone who listens to offer honest criticism of the recording. Sorry you misunderstood - I'm really not very touchy at all and I really do appreciate your (and everyone's) input.

Well Allright, then.

Good job, as I said!

Peace, Love, and Davy Jones.

Nice job, gnarled...

I thought the song had an "Everlast" kind of feel to it... very cool, indeed. ;)

Although, with that being said, you should've made the doctor "stinkin' of gin and juice" and had Rocky sporting a MAC-10. :D

Buck

Buck- thats funny - my roomate kept saying that the way I sing the line 'walked into town and booked himself a room in the local saloon' sounds like it could be in a bone thugs song. maybe thats my true calling :D

It was cool! Mixed nicely! Not much flair, but evenly kept. Some 'verb needed on the git solo. Vocs present and your voc-skillz are more than capable.
Don't feel bad about doin' covers, as I got a library of about 20-30 cover songs myself!
Nice job!

Intial impressions:

Nice space around the guitars. Good clarity

I think the vox are a bit to 1-2 k midrangey.

Good singer.

Well, thanks for the kind words Cue and Jag. The comments about my vox were a little unexpected - but flattering - still getting used to hearing my own voice I guess. Jag - About the midrange on the vox - I think that might have been my mic choice. I was experimenting a little using my two marshall 603s in a X/Y config - a little EQ could have helped.
