looks alot like the lt sound units i have........hmmmmm
talked to the tech that last worked on my 80-8, said he liked them better than the dbx unit that came with the 80-8. haven't used them myself yet as i'm getting ready to move in a couple months. but it does look very similar.

If it breaks, would you be able to find a compatible unit...?

These are very good units. I have the 120A 2-channel for use on half-track. There is also a 140A 4-channel. Rocktron used 2:1 ratio broadband companding like dbx on these units, so it is most like dbx Type I. It is not Dolby or like Dolby. They are very well designed… no pumping and breathing side effects like you get with some outboard dbx units. Each channel is capable of simultaneous encode/decode so you can monitor off the tape. I see from the photos the seller has a nice clear copy of the manual, which is a plus.

Only down side is as JP mentioned… what if it stops working and you have all these encoded tapes with no place to go. On the other hand they are well built… mine is over twenty years old and has always worked with no issues. I see them on eBay now and then, but less frequently than dbx units. Whether or not you could decode with a dbx unit I don’t know.

very cool. . .. Thanks for all the feedback and great information!
