I found a local supplier of these materials.
The rockwool sells for 66 cents per sq.ft.
Seem like a pretty good price to me. I need 1400 sq.ft.
Problem is, it comes in 2'x4' bats. My studs are 16" o.c.
That means I could cut the 4' part into 3 16"x2' sections.
Would the dis-continunity (for lack of a better word) of the rockwool in the stud cavity cause any problems?
Sounds like I don't have any choice.
Additionally, my walls are 2x4 staggered stud. I was thinking of using a regular fiberglass insulation on the exterior studs, and the rockwool on the interior studs. The rockwool is 3" thick, and the wall cavity is 5 1/2" thick, so the regular insulation on the exterior seems like a good alternative to fill the added void.
Also found suppliers for O.C. 700 series panels. Its the 2", and it runs 75 cents per sq.ft.
