Flypaper for freaks
Guys, I recommendations on a rock solid, 8 midi port unit.

The emphasis is on solid timing.

I use a P4. I am a little wary of going usb with midi ports.

What would be good solutions? What are the pros using?

Thanks in advance....

Midi is a 31.2 kilobaud serial language --- quite slow by modern standards. Without resorting to heroic measures, you will never get around the intrinsic limitations of midi.

You don't say what you need 8 'rock solid' midi ports for --- I assume you are referring to timing issues --- but I strongly recommend that you try whatever project you are embarking on by connecting midi in the easiest and cheapest way. You may be pleasantly surprised by the results.

MOTU makes a number of Midi interfaces which are "rock solid". I've owned the Midi express and currently own the Midi time piece AV. Though these may be overkill for your needs, it's hard to make a recomendation without knowing the implimentation. What do you need to accomplish?
