hey everyone. I was just wondering what everyone thought of this one song our band recorded. If I told you how we did a lot of it, you'd probably laugh, hehe, but we did use a delta 44, CEP, and some 14A (??) Shure Mics. I know it's not the greatest, but some critiquing could help us mix/record better in the future. Thanks.

sQuirt - Anna - i hope that works

woops, didn't see that last post there - but yeah any of those links should work.

This was multi-tracked. We had the bass, drums, and a rhythm guitar play together to lay down the basic beats. The guitar playing is really for the bass and drums to get the full band feel i guess. I forget if we actually used that first track or not. After that we layered on more guitars, plus the keyboard dealie. Most effects were recorded, while some of the flanging effects were done using CEP.

The vocal needs something to help it set in the mix. Try compression on it. The key lead got lost in the shuffle. It needs to come forward. Same with the heavily flanged lead. You're off to a good start.

vocals

i agree with track about the vocals. thats about the only thing that really sticks out as needing someting on my garbage speakers :) pretty kewl though.

thanks for all the critiquing thus far. I'm still learning how to use the compression tool in CEP - as this is the only compression tool i have available to me right now. So if anybody has any tips on that, feel free to let me know. For example, what settings should i set to compress the vocals properly. Also, the keyboard lead was meant kinda to be not that obtrusive, but yeah - it could probably stand out a little more. any other comments are still welcome:) .

Just downloaded Anna,

Not a bad song. I think it sounds a little weak in the vocal area. Like it has no balls or something. The guitars sound good. I like the bridge around 2:30. Sounds good. The kick sounds a little on the flabby side. A punchier kick would give the song a huge boost.

Maybe some delay on the vocals would help to thicken it up. I like the wide panned guitars too.

I agree, not a bad start.

Later,

john

Pretty cool,
I especially liked the way you used the flange.
Drums kicked too!

Good stuff,
Pete
